Outreach

Since 1988 the Venue Outreach project has been targeting gay orientated venues such as hotels, nightclubs and Sex on Premises Venues (SOPVs), promoting safe sex practices and providing resources which promote physical, mental and social wellbeing of the patrons who frequent these venues.

Venues have a continuous supply of free Safe Sex Packs, containing a condom and lubricant. The venues are also stocked with an array of brochures, pamphlets and posters.

Venue outreach officers also provide face to face HIV and STI education, HIV and STI testing locations, a list of sexually sensitive GPs, provide safer sexual technique information and referrals for social and community groups. For more information contact David Bright on 9482 0000 or email dbright@waaids.com

Safe Sex Angels

The Safe Sex Angels program aims to inform gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (both HIV positive and negative) and heterosexual people about sexual behaviors that reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Volunteers ‘meet and greet’ patrons as they arrive at a major events or venues, give out safe sex packs and provide occasional referrals if requested.

If you would like the SSA to attend your event, please contact David Bright on 9482 0000 or email dbright@waaids.com.

Beats Outreach

The Beat Outreach Project is a cooperative relationship between the WA AIDS Council, certain Local Government Authorities and the WA Police Service, designed to help men who seek out sexual contact with other men at public places (parks, beaches, toilet blocks etc) make safer choices. WAAC is outreaching to guys at beats to help reduce harm and minimise the transmission of STIs and HIV and to increase understanding around safe sex and safe communities.

Even though the key stakeholders may be coming from different directions with varying intentions - WAAC from a HIV minimisation and safe sex perspective; City Councils and WAPS from a community safety perspective - we are all definitely heading towards the same goal with this project - keeping everyone safe.
