The WAAC Needle and Syringe Exchance Service
The services provided by NSEP are aimed at enabling safer injecting practices, minimising the transmission of HIV, hepatitis C and other blood borne viruses and reducing the risk of harm associated with clients’ choice to inject drugs.

NSEP provide:

  • Supply of sterile needles and syringes free on exchange
  • Supply of other safer injecting equipment including tourniquets and sterilized water at cost price
  • Supply of swabs and appropriate disposal containers
  • Collection and disposal of used needles and syringes
  • Distribution of safer sex equipment and promotion of safer sexual practices through printed and verbal information and education
  • Verbal and printed information and education about transmission and prevention of HIV, Hepatitis C and other blood borne viruses
  • Verbal and printed information and education about safer injecting practices including vein care and how to avoid dirty hits
  • Appropriate referral or guidance to appropriate points of referral
  • Verbal and printed information on available treatment and rehabilitation services

NSEP also strive to provide:

  • Trained and experience staff with non-judgmental attitudes, and knowledge of up-to-date safer injecting practices,
  • An anonymous, non-intrusive, user friendly and non-threatening environment for needle and syringe exchange, education, support and referral on request.
