What's the difference between HIV & AIDS?Human Immunodeficiency Virus: This is a virus that can cause AIDS. It can be transmitted on from one person to another; the virus attacks the immune system. The immune system is what fights infection and other diseases in our bodies. Eventually the immune system may become overwhelmed by the HIV, and the person may be susceptible to infections that in most cases the body would be able to fight off. When a person says they are HIV positive, this means that they know they have the HIV in their body.
What is AIDS?Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome: refers to the range of specific illnesses that people who have HIV may get when their immune system is badly damaged by HIV.
