WAAIDS Counselling 2

The WA AIDS Council provides Counselling services, conducted in a supportive and confidential environment. The Counsellors are experienced in assisting clients to address a range of issues including sexuality, gender issues, relationships, behaviour change, sexual health and living with HIV.

What is Counselling?

Counselling provides an opportunity to explore aspects of your life in a nonjudgmental and supportive atmosphere. Your counsellor will help you to examine issues, discover options and make decisions to enhance physical and emotional well-being.

Who can access our service?

• People living with HIV, their partners, immediate family members or carers;

• People contemplating HIV testing or waiting for results;

• People from diverse gender and sexuality communities, around issues of identity, family, relationships, sexuality and gender.

Please feel free to speak to a Counsellor if you are unsure whether the service will meet your needs.

How long will it take?

A counselling session lasts approximately 50 minutes. Depending on the issue being discussed you may find just 1 or 2 sessions are enough. However, for other issues, regular sessions over a longer period may be appropriate.

How much will it cost?

The following fees apply for counselling services:

Individual Counselling (per session)

$10.00 - Unwaged/Students (eligibility criteria - Health Care Card)

$40.00 - Waged

Couples Counselling (per session)

$20.00 - (Both partners unwaged)

$70.00 - Both waged.

We work with a 'sliding payment scale', so please discuss these fees with your Counsellor. Fees can be waived at the discretion of the Counsellor; we do not want finances to be a barrier.

How do I make an appointment?

You do not need a referral. To make an appointment with one of our counsellors please phone during office hours.  If a Counsellor is not available to speak with, please ask to speak with Manager Clinical Services, Lisa Tomney or email

Telephone: (08) 9482 0000

Address: 664 Murray Street, West Perth WA 6005

The Counsellors at WAAC bring a wide range of skills and experience to their work, and would be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about our service.
