PrEP Access Update

Ethics approval for the Western Australian Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV Implementation Trial (PrEPIT-WA).

At the end of July, the Western Australian Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis for HIV Implementation Trial (PrEPIT-WA) was approved by a human research ethics committee. This is a crucial step, and means that enrolments for the trial will be able to commence soon.

Once enrolments commence, the trial will be delivered through four clinics in the Metropolitan region. These include two private clinics, M Clinic (West Perth) and GP on Beaufort (Mt Lawley), and two public clinics, South Terrace Clinic (Fremantle) and Royal Perth Hospital Sexual Health Clinic (East Perth). People living in regional parts of Western Australia will be able to participate through telehealth arrangements with Royal Perth Hospital Sexual Health Clinic, with support from their local Public Health Unit or General Practitioner.

Our Mission

To minimise the impact and further transmission of HIV, other blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections. To reduce social, legal and policy barriers which prevent access to health information and effective support and prevention services.
